Carbide tap, carbide spiral flute taps
Generally speaking, the larger the helix angle, the better the chip removal performance. Carbide spiral flute tap is suitable for blind hole tapping, however it is not recommended for through hole tapping. The materials used for super pressure facilities are characterized by high strength and high toughness,to tap threaded holes on such materials, the traditional straight flute tap doesn’t not work, however, the spiral flute tap do, it solves the problem of tap large threaded holes on these difficult-t- machine materials.

Same as the carbide cutting tools gradually replaces the high speed steel tools in turning, cemented carbide taps also begin to be more and more used for thread hole tapping. Compared with HSS taps, cemented carbide taps have high hardness and brittleness, so there is a problem of chip removal when tapping with cemented carbide taps. In spite of this, cemented carbide taps are super good for tapping cast iron and aluminum alloy materials, tap damage form is mainly mechanical wear out. Because a large number of cast iron and aluminum alloy parts are applied in the automotive industry, carbide taps are used more and more wider to obtain long tool life. In the automotive industry, the reduction of the tool replacing time is obviously an important factor, and the long tool life of cemented carbide taps will minimize the time for replacing taps. The performance of coated cemented carbide taps with small helix angle is very good to tap aluminum alloy workpiece with silicon content of 8% - 12%. The tap made of sub-micron grain cemented carbide can increase the toughness without reducing its hardness. It is very good in tapping hardened steel, plastics and difficult to machine nickel base alloy.
