Because a large number of cast iron and aluminum alloy parts are applied in the automotive industry, carbide taps are used more and more wider to obtain long tool life. In the automotive industry, the reduction of the tool replacing time is obviously an important factor, and the long tool life of cemented carbide taps will minimize the time for replacing taps. The performance of coated cemented carbide taps with small helix angle is very good to tap aluminum alloy workpiece with silicon content of 8% - 12%. The tap made of sub-micron grain cemented carbide can increase the toughness without reducing its hardness. It is very good in tapping hardened steel, plastics and difficult to machine nickel base alloy.
